Rigor

Considering Ways-We-Talk series.
“Rigor”

Who don’t want to be rigorous? Raise your hand.
Wouldn’t you welcome that descriptive on
your teacher evaluations?

How ‘bout the new dean: don’t we hope she’s tough!
No monkey business—no suffering fools gladly.
Whip this place into academic shape. Ratchet
up for EXCELLENCE. Clap your hand
if you love rigor.

Crying Theater! Theater!
in a Crowded Fire

How I characterize The Liberal Art as opposed to
(not to be conflated, collapsed, or confused with)
the liberalarts—those rigorous instrumental grad-
school cultivating resume-stroking major & minor
vocational programs called the disciplines.

As a crime of discrimination. A violence against
Convention. Mockery to industrialized hire
education & its chronicles. How could
it be otherwise: the Liberal Art?

Theater! Theater! Like calling out Ice Cream!
Ice Cream in hell for crying out loud! Would
cause a rigor-ruckus if anyone actually got
the joke & ransacked the Good Humor Man—
hand truck and all.
