Environ Mental Studies & Leadership Programs

Global Warming

A Fine Artist Attempting
to Dwell Among The
Humanities

(One-Eyed in
the Valley of
the Blind)

“Everything is still very hot,
often burning inside me—so
much so that sometimes to
an observer I may ironically
appear to be doing nothing
at all.”

My probationary
student experiencing
global warming, an
environ-mental studies
issue. What liberal art
polices frame & encourage
such stunning stupor?

“So intense is my abstraction
at times, yet never do I abstract
into a totally removed state. I’m
actively doing thinking.”

School mode: schola:
“leisure time” as if
“struck by a stick” —
stunned stupid: pre-
requisite for the
practice of liberal
art, aka: schola-ship.

“Don’t just do something” said
Father Berrigan in the late 60’s:
“Stand there!”

Doubtless there are other ways.
Take something. Seek cognitive
dissonance counseling.

“To prove I am not so desultory
in my thinking, I ask, Professor:
What is the relationship, if there
is one, between Passion and
Beauty?

I wouldn’t walk across the street
to save the world, Thoreau said.
Is that arrogance? Or humility?
