Stalwart Pioneers

First Year Seminary

(Old School)

“Is not indeed every man a student,
and do not all things exist for the
student’s behoof?

And, finally, is not the true scholar
the only true master?”

Democratic or Elitist: which?

Quaint talk about students & scholars
in olden days. Like studying History of
Art or Origin Myths & patronizing or
watching people in early movies move
like puppets & feel advanced. All them
cigarettes we smoked in the 40’s and
50’s before we got smart..

Behoof?

Stunned stupid plus the leisure time to
capitalize on it. I used to believe each
person had his own idiot demon as
tutelary genius—paraclete, guide,
muse, personal savior: the
idea was to listen.
Obey.

Liberal Art.

“Colleges in like manner have their
indispensable office: [to]
gather from
far every ray of
various genius to
their hospitable
halls, and by the
concentrated
fires, set the hearts of
their
youth on flame...

Retaining the
Intellective &
Affective fire:

but how?

Forget this and our American colleges
will recede in their
public importance,
whilst
they grow richer every year.”
.
Whilst?

Genius is always sufficiently the enemy
of genius by
over-influence.

The books of an older period will not
fit this.

Sampling RWE’s: “American Scholar.”
B
ait.

Anyone might could
nibble if not
bite.

Converse-action across the curriculum:
fine arts & AH! the humanism as well
as social science and hard. Dream
of a Common Language & local
food for thought.
It's possible.

Anthropologically speaking,
I bet IT takes a collective
Mind-Set: shared attitude,
atmospheric environmental
studies and I guess leadership
for this kind of collaborative
and conversational genius to
grow as a local garden of
delight, say.

Or it has to be "cool," maybe.
Like some new sport. Or else
like old-time back porch jamming:
plink plank & everyone's a noise
in the band & we all get better
and good by playing.

Or it'll come into fashion
--like hair cuts or tattoos,
small cars. The Chronicles
of Hire Education will begin
plugging this kind of home-
groan activity and then IT'll
be ok to participate.

xxxooo, Henry Jensen -
stalwart pioneer toward
frontiers yet unknown.
