Toward Frontiers Yet Unknown

CONTACT TIME

How much contact
time is needed for the
institutionalized?

For the home
scholars? The
non-residential
Me.F.A-ers?

We went from five 50
min.3 c.h. courses per
sem. to four 80 min 4
c.h. courses per sem.
busting the 15 wk
semester into two 8 wk
terms so that students
were generally taking
only 2 or 3 different
courses at once and
faculty: 1 or 2
different
courses at
once.

Do More With Less
was our motto;
Schumacher was
our saint. Small
IS beautiful (we
all saluted) &
economics as if
people mattered
mattered.

Over 15 years, with
legal immigration
of new grad-student
phds & scholars from
other institutions coming
here who didn’t reinvent
our wheels: the semester-
length course eventually
supplanted the term-length
and here we are, with
alternate Fridays so some
SACS notion of industrial
contact hours might
be appeased..

Stalwart Pioneers

Fellow boundary
crossers transgressing
the curriculum
oops
oh
damn
toward
frontiers
yet unknown.

State lines I can see
don’t count. I park
the car and straddle:
half Connecticut
half Massachusetts

The other lines are
visceral. I don’t
feel anything.

Oh,
Now I do.
