Method Behind My Madness

The Method Behind my Madness.

The end and the means, the gamester
and the game—
life is made up of the
inter-mixture and reaction of these
two
amicable powers, whose marriage
appears
beforehand monstrous,
as each denies and tends

to abolish the
other.

We must reconcile the contradictions
as we can,
but their discord and their
concord introduce
wild absurdities
into our thinking and speech.

(Emerson )

Means (a mess, damnit) &
ENDS (better be CLEAR, CLEAN,
Coherent, with a thesisdriving IT all the way)

Playboy & the Puritan: my version of the
means & ends, process & product opposition:
fool around like a prodigal, then revise and
reform like a choir member. .

Monstrous and Hostile if you put Pete Playboy
and Polly Puritan in the same room and make
them work together un-mediated. Imagine. Go
ahead make a mind movie.

My obsession as a Pedagogue: I hate the wet
blanket of Finished Product thrown over &
eclipsing the necessary confusion of mess&guess,
trial & error: the waste it, waste it, waste it necessary
to get better and GOOD at doing anything.

I understand it.
It’s a given.
WE & me, too: mainly interested that the computer
runs well & the shoe fits, not who made it, where
or how or with what agony. In practically all of my
life-time affairs, product is practical and what counts,
whatever sweatshops generate it. I don’t go to the
mall searching for Process

Unless I want to learn how-to-do something.

Then the mess ouch oh hell damn slip & slide of
Process is just what I want. Need. I’m all ears then.
Obedient. Tell me what it takes & HOW: to get
good at skiing, trumpet, poem-izing, painting,
banjo, duck-shooting, citizenship I suppose, civil
obedience and disobedience, suspending judgment…..

I'll be paying attention. Marking up my text books.
taking notes, wasting time improving its nicks
like anything.
