The Puritan and the Playboy

Dear Fiction-ers &
Colleagues Across the
Curriculum.

Once we agree together that
it’s impossible to separate
“aesthetics” from” ethics”
so as to SEE without the filter
of our bias and belief system,
contaminating our observations,
…THEN we can.
Need we argue?

LOOK (AESTHETICS)

I make a big old mess (playboy mode)
& then try & clean it up, revise, reform
& clarify (puritan mode.)

How can I do ONE without the Other?

(It’s possible. I may simply indulge my
prodigality and make one mess after
another; OR I turn up my Puritanism
and am all clean & sober, sane &
sanitary, careful & conserving, neat
as a pin, pure as pi.)

I am drawing a distinction (a fine line)
between conscious mental process
on the one hand and embodied action
(in-performance) on the other hand


Do not confuse with masculine/feminine
male/female, gender, or bathroom
segregation—if you can help it.

Fallacy? It’s a DISTINCTION for crying
out loud. I haven’t cut it with Occam’s
Razor. Nothing is bleeding. Turn it UP—
the division.. Characterize both side. See
how they run. Don’t let either side win.

Putting IT in play. A fallacy if I thought
it was substantial. Tangible. Like separating
the head off the hunger artist and expecting
him to continue practicing his starvation
artistry. That would be fallacious.

SEE (Ethics)

I can say TER for he/him/she/her if
you want me to. I know POLITICS
is where the overt ACTION is and
we want to be inclusive and no child
left a behind and it’s all ONE from
certain perspective and “life-of-the-
mind” is merely school house ivory
tower leisure time for scholars and
students stunned stupid and therefore
exquisitely happy to study.
