Not What I Know but whether I can Put IT in PLAY.

I'm intrigued by the tension between control and
freedom in classroom  conversation and would
love to hear more thoughts on the side of either
or both.

            Polarize in order to Rationalize

My image for laissez faire: Alice in  Wonderland
Upside Down Flamingo & Hedgehog Croquet:
Live, alive OH.  Is this a game?

Lasso Fair:  the antithesis. Take this down.
It'll be on the  exam. Moving right along.
Cover Ground &; Get R  Done. Instruction.
Forcing the issue, not that there's anything
wrong with that. It's what we do.  This is not a game.

A synthesis of these two extremes: Hard Balls
& Mallets where it’s clearthe freedom-to-constraint
and control to out-of-control ratios generates
regulated play and a good time is had by all.

Lasso Fair is the dominant pair of dimes,
don’t  you agree?. Hard balls and Mallet:  what we
strive for: a good  game  going on within  our wickets
and goal posts. The heart of  my own classroom time
is pretty much Alice in Wonderland but that’s just to
offset and  supplement theOverall Environmentalism
of Lasso Fair. Building an ice cream parlor in hell without
doing injustice to hot or cold. I fail. I know that.

MY CONVICTION OF SIN

Am I ready to generalize?

Generalizations over simplify:
an injustice to  the individual.

Am I ready to specify and reduce?

Devil’s in the details & all the parts
& all the kings men  won't suffice to
do justice to a whole,

Injustice then.

Damaging  if I generalize.
Damaging if I simplify.
Damaging if I overstate.
Damaging if I understate.

Damaged & damaging if I do..
Damaged & damaging if I
don’t do: I'm  always throwing
the bull in the china shop, a
crime  & domestic violence
to the  teacups

The damage done is done & what’s done
is done & it's always the denial & cover-up
that thickens my bozone  layer, confess.

  1. Interesting blog!

This is off-topic, but I just wanted to comment that I was searching for information on Samuel Scoville, Jr. when I found your site. I have been enjoying the book "Wild Honey" very much. The opening chapter is quite a story, and since I see he was your grandfather, I wanted to express my appreciation for his writing.

I live a little distance west of you (in Cullowhee, NC) and do some blogging, too: http://gulahiyi.blogspot.com
