Without Contraries is No Progressivism (Emergent Values)

Sam - we all put the outcomes before the course -
otherwise, why offer a course?  They are there,
make no mistake about it.  I wonder if the
objection to assessment more about the who,
how, what, when and why of assessment,
rather than the act of assessment itself.

I love your idea of focusing on emergent properties
rather than the mundane stuff of most assessment.
Unfortunately, our culture tends to focus on stuff
that is easy to measure, rather than the stuff that
 really matters.

Our universities... continue to teach and
operate in the system that is destroying the
biosphere. Adherence to the old mind-set,
the old curricula, obsolete pedagogy, and
shortsighted planning are producing
graduates who are trained to
perpetuate the destruction
of the biosphere

I keep quoting Ray Anderson (St Ray--and
Don Ray, bless his heart, thought I was invoking him).

There are Emergent Values and Properties that emerge
despite our mundane taking-care-of-busyness agenda.
They are probably the "evolutionary"ones   --
meta-sustainability going on beyond our
Henny Penny and Turkey Lurkeyk
conscientioiusness.

Jack Horner sticks in his thumb
pulls out a plumb and says
o what a good boy am I.

I know we all operate with unconscious-to-conscious
ratios of Intended Outcomes and Golden Intentions
and our Courses deliver what they intend to deliver
otherwise, as you say, why?  It used to be the  formula
for writing certain kinds of Academic-ese: 1) to state
what you are going to say--2) to say it-- and 3) to
say what you said.

Clarity uber alles.

Important for  you-guys down there in the Hamil Complex,
but then Humanities (so called) imitates that clarity-addiction
("our culture tends to focus on stuff easy to measure)
where it might could turn-up with unpostponed joy the
indeterminacy, ambiguity, doubtful dubious uncertainty and
genuine appreciation for Emergent Values and Principles
emerging right under our very gnosis--(local food)
and not just hegelian patterns of major paradigm
shifts in the passed and long ago. .

Practicing rather than just preaching emergency.

Our universities... continue to teach and
operate in the system that is destroying the
biosphere. Adherence to the old mind-set,
the old curricula, obsolete pedagogy, and
shortsighted planning are producing
graduates who are trained to
perpetuate the destruction
of the biosphere

Of course I overstate: for emphasis to
counter the overemphasis of our
industrialized control & monitor
liability-dread habits of
institutitionalized
professionalism.

Your goodness must have some edge to it, — else it is none.
The doctrine of hatred must be preached as the counteraction
of the doctrine of love when that pules and whines.
