"Does Religion Cause Bad Behavior?"

Dear BE & Colleagues Across the Curriculum

Our Pfaff Cup Winner of several seasons ago BJ. Scofield
(now called BE) and a gradate student currently pursuing a
Master's of Divinity at Starr King School for the Ministry in
the Unitarian Universalist tradition with an emphasis in
women’s studies and counter oppression. has been publishing
a series of   essays in Tikkun Daily on the ancient atheism vs
theism battle: religion as a social curse—or promise of a better
life?  Which?

These ongoing smart atheist / naive thetic / stupid religionist
threadssound something like the old man reading Winnie the
Pooh to thechildren, and yet round and round the mull berry
bush rationalistsamong the munchkins argue over whether
bears can talk forcrying  out loud, some of them with
brilliance-some not so much.

Many pissed off at the disturbance get
sucked in to the controversy.

And then some just listen, delighting in Christopher Robin;
holy smokes & mirrors, they say, with unpostponed joy.
Far Out. .

Excellent Cartography of the Flat World. Anti-Religionists
(not that there’s anything  wrong with that: turn it up; put it
in play)  such as Christopher Hitchens et al are like kids
who figure out there’s no Santa Clause.

Pissed. As if duped, damnit–and now full  of righteous
anger at the pervasive myth hulking over the species like
some sphinx, Smart, too–brilliant, rational, logical, like
reducing some dream to commonsense. Like going into
the closet with a flashlight & lucid schemes to expose
darkness.

“Who’s afraid of the dark?
Do you see any round here?

Like a Freddy Flatlander lecturing on Sally Sphere
in terms of circles and circle jerks.

 Eureka.

LIKE, I said. Loose analogic. Don’t expect logic
from me on these matters.   Well--on any other matter
for that matter.Analogy uber alles.  Logic's just a
handmaiden to my irrationality.

xxxooo, Sam
