Information Crisis

Dear Laura,
 
Energy.
 
I say I don’t have the energy for it, lacking
energy, suffering a personal energy crisis,
private oil spill leaking “motivation” &
curtailed auto-mobility in terms of the
physicists: piggy- backing on their laws
of  thermo- dynamics & conservation of
which I know nothing . Hear say, sure. I
am drained and talk about it in terms of
energy; as if I had it, lost, could save it,
spend it recklessly.
 
              Potential Energy
Rest Energy      Kinetic Energy
  
I can’t imagine “rest.” Doubt there’s an
image for it. E = MC ² ?   Potential’s a
grand  dam or potentate: possibilities
galore until she chooses to break &
now kinetic spilling down  the valley,
knocking out chicken houses & old
Fords,no longer potent. Actualized.
Impotent.
 
Energy in physics talk.
Energy in politics talk
Energy in personal talk.
Energy that rises up, an
emergent phenomenon
during conversation.
 
Local fuel feeds me like food for thought.
A snatch of conversation crossing the bridge.
hey, how you doon? s’up? how ‘bout them
heels? strokes & status confirming sustains
a smile that picks me up. Energizes. .
 
Information   
 
1) a difference that makes a difference
            as differentiated from
2) a difference that makes no difference:
 
What’s the difference between difference
that makes a difference and difference
that doesn’t? What’s the relationship?
 
Making a difference makes a difference.
Drawing distinctions is at least meta-
phorically & maybe actually negen-
tropic: the opposite of entropy,
organizing what’s other wise
undifferentiated and so:
without meaning.
 
No meaning with out a difference
but difference isn’t enough: it
takes difference that makes
a difference. Significant
significance.
 
Remember the last time you drew
a distinction?  Sparking a difference?
Eureka! A line in the sand so to speak ,
so to speak, because there’s actually
no substance to a difference. No matter.
A matter of speaking is all.   

We can say it’s all in the mind as if
it  lived there—but a difference is
homeless. Can’t finger it. Don’t
obey laws of  thermodynamics and
yet has it’s  negentropical  effect—
modifying if not slowing the arrows
of time equi-liberating some closet
culture, custom, conventionally
ordered  rigor mortification dead
but refusing to die, know what I
mean?.  .
 
Do you see the difference?
Energy on the one hand.
Information on the other.
We ought to try not to
conflate, collapse, and
confuse unknowingly
if we can help it. .
