The Tyranny of Common Sense
The Tyranny of Common Sense.
Sir Ken Robinson’s phrase.
You might wonder how it could be
said tripingly over the tongue as mere
description with no threatening overtones
Tyranny-of-common-sense as common
as common sense like mosquitoes at
dusk, bad weather, Sunday summer
traffic moving through Cape Cod
rotaries & roundabouts:
Now you go. Now I go.
Now you go. Now I go.
We can only imagine the nonchalance
which might acknowledge common
sense as tyranny. .
“Ah! that damned common sense!
Whattaya gonna do! ”
No one easily blames the common sense,.
its liabilities eclipsed if not occluded by
convenience & defended by all who
nourish & cherish its inert
inviolability .
Stay seated while others rise to clap;
don’t wear bicycle helmets or carry
bottle water; handle brass keys and
Venetian blinds with impunity, let
your dogs run unleashed on Jones
Mountain. We might could be a little
less professional here, some what
more irrational if we mean to tighten
retention & innovation and at the
same time ratchet-up the rigor.
