Candor & Civility and Can They Just Get Along?
“Christ, what are patterns for?”
Amy Lowell,
Candor and Civility
Innovation and Rigor
Walking on Water (WOW)
Walking on Eggs (WOE)
A pattern there, if I don’t get caught
up in the differences. Hostile &
incommensurate notions
but complementary if
I can sustain the
opposition &
not collapse
into one or
the other.
My old man told me “People are more
Important than Ideas, son.” And he’s
right, but I prefer ideas.
When I accused him of having an ego
big as any body he said, “Yes, but
mine’s crucified.”
A good idea.
An immaculate concept, say:
crucified ego as a consummation
devoutly to be desired.
Wouldn’t I get along much better? I
believeI would: frank & honest as
well as civil; a rigorous innovator
if my ego was crucified.
I'd walk on water as well as eggs,
like anything,
