Always for the Sake of Argument and Disagree Ability

For the Sake of Argument

Thanks to Facebook et al. I
argue as much as I can with
liberals and Lutherans,
fundamentalists and atheists,
agnostics and republicans,
democrats and nu-agers,
biologists and poets, social
workers, chemists, literary
critics and non-fictional
creative writers.  Students
if I'm lucky. Colleagues on
occasion.

How else get better and good?

The clash of opposition.
Yes but….
On the other hand…
Lest we forget…
I hear tell…
Beg to differ…
Twist and Shout …
What do you mean by ….
(define your terms)
Contra diction, of course
and paradox,
inconsistency
and incoherence
got to love it: always
the
spirit if not the letter
of
the matter & whatsamatter.

Emerging Values & Phenomena

Invention.

I can’t pin the tale on the
donkey. And I try and I try
and I try.  If I had a hammer
and nails, I’d hammer in the

morning, I’d hammer in the
evening. All over this land.

The academic ego-system,
a colleague admits, don’t
support creativity, imagination,
risk, failure (the bad it takes to
get good), margins for error,
rooms for play.

Need we argue?

I haven’t graded or corrected a
student for years and years.
You  might wonder:
how do I do  that?

What could possibly  motivate
them?

“Recoil from prior convictions
meaning has been tossed in the
air where it lingers…shapeless
dirt devil without a home.”

Student comment: prelude to
her journaling  for Survey of

American Literature. Mind on
a Page (mop) we call it. Freeze
dried always waiting for
resurrection.
