Summer Fallowship

Amateur Standing

You know a sabbatical is a fellowship,
signifying  a field of activity left fallow
for a season of brooding regeneration
having been mono-cultured for 7 years
or so—draining soil and nutrients &
diminishing local food production...

and
so: fallow for crying out loud, non-
productive production just right for
long range planning and faculty
development.

Fallowshipping lassitude & nonchalant
recreation: good to be an academic
with
summers of sabbatical-izing
like anything
or what’s a college
for?
