Who's Your Dada Now?

Dear Colleagues ATC
{Coursing without Borders Series)

DADA (father of the popular “surreal” as in:
how was the trip? the evening out? the
service project?  game?  movie? weekend?
The awesome-ness etc as in:
OMG:  it was surreal!!! )

Dada:
"A European movement in art and
literature,  founded in Zurich in 1916 with
an admittedly destructive intent—to mock,
pervert, and  demolish all the tenets of painting,
music, poetry
, philosophy, logic, and even
reason
itself, and set up a pretended madness
instead,  in protest against what the leaders
of the movement regarded as the insane and
vicious destruction of civilization, life and thought

taking place in the trenches of World War I. "
(Steven Vincent Binet, Readers Encyclopedia. )

Dada: In the Liberal Art tradition of early Greek
Philosophy  (elenchus-to-aporia") where the aim
was to deconstruct and clear the mind  of it's
foundations so as to entertain the possibility of
the NEW.

Rigor-to-Innovation ratios.

Zen-spanking koan-stunning the student stupid
for the same salutary  possibilities. Bottoming out.
Nirvana - blowing the mind.  &  when the wind
blows the cradle will rock & down will come baby,
cradle and all.

Liberal Art.

(as opposed to the-liberal-arts—those majors and
minors , poster events and capstone experiences.)
