Liberal Art for the Sake of Argument

MIND SET: a man walks the Amazon.
My cousin climbs Mt. Kilimanjaro.
People in Colorado  prepare shelter
and supplies for the Apocalypse.
Golfers play in the rain on River Road.
A former student rows herself across
the Atlantic. Country churches fill their
parking lots with Sunday morning
automobiles. Hefty motor cycles rumble
thru  Riceville Road, learning into the S
curves past the old dairy barn. Staten
Island Ferry opens for business as usual.

HIDE PARK
You the poet:
I rant, rave, rip, smash & ruin if
I can— I think I can I think I can
but can’t: always  beyond me and
my soap box rub-a-dub scrubbing
off connotations  never the less &
so to speak making not-nice dis-
comforting the afflicted & rubbing
it in. Rub it in. Rub it in.
