top trying to break open the apple butter bottle, say,
banging the lid, pouring it under hot water, twisting
it with one of them rubber grippers or dishtowels,
tapping along the sides with a teaspoon, praying
no progress but knowing someone will come along
later and violins it’ll open like a box of chocolates,
easy as Sunday morning.
