My Version of The Literature Gen-Ed Requirement
(and what it’s Good for)

Get Real! Keep IT Real!

These two common admonitions suggest “real”
is in achievement, or at least a state anyone might
fall off from, into the “unreal.”

On the other hand: it’s ALL real.
How could it be otherwise? True?
So: inside the concept REALITY
we have a sub-division we call
Real and Unreal

LIKE Joe Fish, say, who everyone can agree is
always ALL WET, and yet, if we can personify
(we can: it’s what we do. we reify, personify, deify).
we can conceive of a sub-division Joe entertains
called “Wet” and “Dry.”

Get WET! Joe might advise his friends
Keep it WET for crying out loud!

WET itself would be beyond Joe’s conception.
Super(fishy)natural. In the same way REALITY
might be said to be beyond our conception
Super (human) natural.

Yet we will naturally continue to cherish our
own subverted version of "real" and "unreal"
and advise ourselves and each other:
GET REAL! and furthermore
KEEP IT REAL (2 different
achievements, yes?)

The words ILLUSION, DELUSION, illusory,
delusional literally refer to a state of minding
which is Not IN PLAY—not in-game: out of it.

Lusory, lusion, ludic: play, game – as in
prelude (before the play, foreplay),
interlude—(middle of the play,)
postlude (after the play)

PLAY (be-in-game) or NOT.

That’s the fundamental distinction.
It refers to a frame of mind-set as well
as an activity. (Do not unknowingly conflate,
collapse or confuse this distinction: frame of mind,
on the one hand: activity in real-time on the other.

It’s not what I know these days, it’s whether
I can put it in play that counts. In-game.
Information is galore. Everyone’s a
laptop dancer & the smartest
kid in the class.

Information is free.
MIT has it’s whole curriculum on line.

Get real.
Keep it real.
AKA: LIBERAL ART: a life-long sport.

Topics are tokens for play. Subject-Object matter
is inert— a storehouse, an inventory. like money in
the bank. Until it is Put In Play.Stimulus package.
That’s when it counts.

What? What the? What the hell?
What the hell is THAT? What the
hell kind of deal is that deal?

(Foreplay, prelude: prerequisite to getting real: inquiry.)
