Calibrating "Stupidity":

Calibrating “Stupidity”

(I.E. steu: “to be hit with a stick: stunned, stunning”
etymology of stupor, stupid, study, student)

A culture of groupthink will cultivate its own
institutional belief structure (principality,
power, team spirit) and our ability to think
and see clearly will often fall victim to its
persuasiveness….atmospheres in which
honest questions provoke outrage and testimony
that fails to fall in sync with the herd is viewed
with angry suspicion. But who benefits most
from the careful manipulation and maintenance
of these atmospheres? What becomes of the
general welfare? Who watches the watcher?

admits to “groupthink” yet we’re all
bound in conspiracies: breathing
together. Fascinated by
fascinations. Call it
ethos.

Attitudes & Businesses are “grown” now
and “local food” stands for everything good
regarding health and economics]

[Me--exception: I’m a member of institutions
but not –alized, know what I’m saying? Like
sitting in the audience of some comedian and
everything said flies right by my head and sticks
to them other guys or outside the room, down
the road—victim-fallers sucked up by atmospheric
persuasion: tattoo parlor cosmetic surgical bottle
water birther carbon footprint 2nd hand smoke,
sustainable backpacks .incarcerated unknowingly
by local or regional environ-mentalisms & don’t
even know any better but not me & if you say
I AM too, I’ll have to correct you.] .

Atmospheric: in which honest questions provoke
outrage and testimony that fails to fall in sync
with the herd are viewed with angry suspicion.

[Any classroom culture maintains a cap on trade
that might question fundamental assumptions of
the discipline that would monkey wrench an
agenda. I urge students to test this:& ask Dr. K
(say) to define “citizen” sometime: start from
scratch; or question the assumption that Plato’s
Republic is a political treatise rather than mere
meditation on Virtue. Test the atmosphere. Make
Jeff Holmes diagram mitochondria when he’s
n the middle of explaining higher order organization
or homeostasis maybe. No, wait, Jeff’d be delighted
—and make the general educational connections.,


Looks like a Birkenstock:
it’s own homeland security, cybernetic
navigational & sustainability system
sustaining the status quo or else:
insanity.

Who benefits from the careful manipulation and
maintenance[sustainability] of these atmospheres?
What becomes of the general welfare? Who
watches the watchers?
