Brainwashing Fundamentalism
The issue ...
[me, trying to reduce IT to
a theoretical “eternal” (conceptual,
cerebral) either/or without doing
injustice to the complicated web
of interstices and branching limbs
of implication and real-time actualization]
...is something like THIS:
I) the IDEA ( xtianity, in this case) as
an archetype: intangible, can’t touch it,
immaterial, call it spiritual or mental
or whatever might be immaculately
conceived as PURE (purged)
uncontaminated—idea of
love, say: hate, justice,
pleasure, pain: these
are ideas, yes?
Unsubstantial .
II. the manifestation (of xtianity, in this
case)—or stereotypical representation:
bible, books, iconic images and rituals
robes & sandals, mangers & crosses,
rock of ages....
III. the embodiments – allo types: all the
variations, regional and local—just among
the Presbyterians, say—not to mention
the Baptists, Pentecostals, Quakers—
all of which repeat this Archetype/
Stereotype/ allotypical variatio in their
own denominations and sects
;
See that I mean?
Archetype
Stereotypes
Allo-type
We too often scramble around on the extremities
(bottom line) like monkeys territorially pissing,
offending, defending our various versions. .
If I collapse these “levels” of hierarchal
organization—then of course I am going
to mix and fuse and confuse and ignore
the SAMES because of the Differences.
Guns don't kill people, people do;.
blame the gun if you want. You won’t be
alone. I blame an IDEA because I hate
the manifestations and embodiments.
throwing the baby out with the bath water,
not knowing any better..
Not that there’s NOT a relationship But the
nature of idea-to-manifest-to-embodiment
is what we might could put in play. Call it
“school” mode (not to be confused with
Church & State modes) and try to start
with an agreement that whatever we come
up with will be woefully inadequate--a
reduction, a generalization, a metaphor.
What would you call the PURIFICATION of
these ideas-to-persons-to-environment ratios?
The decontamination and de-confusion of notion
and action? Purging? Purgation? Purgatory?
Puritanism? Brain washing?
Can you see thru (per) the (always inadequate
but necessary) representations to the idea
represented? IF so: you are practicing
liberal art—as far as I’m concerned.
Not to be conflated, collapsed, or confused
with the liberal arts: them disciplines we
major and minor in.
(You can see why “argument” is crucial,
playing out the differences and insufficieneis
of our conversation. Sustainable Converse-action,
knowing we reduce, overstate, understate,
mix metaphors: of course we do. The more
the better if not always the merrier.)
Warning: this kind of thinking is offensive
to the literal fundamentalists—and somewhat
ludicrous to the savvy (Schumacher)
Stage-II ists also.
xxxooo, Sam
