Domestic Violence (Cont.)

Boundaries W/O Courses Series.

MA & PA and
Why Can't
They Just
Get Along?

Then he begins to see pattern
in these events;  and facts and
while they loom large on
the surface they are
probably not
important.        Carl Rogers

I believe he’s saying facts
aren’t important as patterns.
Looming large on the surface,
yes—like sentences, like
country & western songs
& rock & roll: a 3-chord
progression will generate
infinite tunes and hit parade
songs blooming large on
the super fices.

The day I learned that
“pattern” was derived from
“patron,”“paternal” & all in
the family with “patriarch”
"patriarchal" and "patriarchy"
was the  day we were talking
about Plath’s “Daddy” and
cummngs,  “My  Father
Moved Though Dooms
of Love.”

I was sensing some kind of
eminent classroom epiphany
I’m not kidding don’t ask me
why, and Anna  Burrell half-
way thru the period  said, “I
looked up “pattern” and it’s
related to “father” – Pater.
Pa.

Just then at that moment in
time power went off in Jensen.
We were in the dark..

PA – pater,  patron, pattern.
MA – mater, matrix,  matter

A difference that makes a difference.
No foe dichotomy either:  “pattern”
is not opposite of “matter” for crying
out loud.

Opposite of matter is immaterial,
nothing; and the opposite of pattern
is chaos, chasm, merely a yawn waiting
for the next words to begin again the
origins of the universe of converse.
initiate instigate inaugurate authorize
the patter

Also: the 2  are not on the same level
of Whitehead-&-Russell’s-hierarchy-
of-Logical-Type either: might as well
oppose temperature and hot, or life
and  choice. This is important to
keep in mind logically, if not
analogically.

Nevertheless and for all practical
purposes, : we oppose them, .
Pa & Ma: an ongoing conceptual
domestic violence, so to speak,
in manners of speaking.

Conceptual, I said: "school mode."
Not talking “church mode” or “state”
or polite, policed political policies.

A difference that makes a difference..
