God in the Hands of Angry Sinners
Always, after a class, I walk away with
a sense of unfinished busyness and attempt
to tidy IT up with these courses-beyond-
borders spams, recognizing that in my efforts
to clarify I also generate confusion--the
cost-benefit of attempting to Make Some
Sense--beyond the common sense already
at hand. Dirty work: local food. But that's
how it goes: a road to hello always paved
with good intentions.
Here is my batch of disclaimers:
For the sake of argument
in a manner of speaking
in manners of speaking
I’m an injustice-doer
a moving violator
criminal discriminator
always ripping-off pieces
of the whole.
I overstate for emphasis
& understate for irony. I
reduce, reduce, reduce
simplify simplify simplify
because IT’s complex
beyond my inadequacies
Improve my terms, or what’s
a college for? Need we argue
—or what’s a college for?
This slim repertoire of parenthetical
qualifiers lulls me into a false but
necessary sense of security (a safe place)
that allows me to fool around with ideas
in progress, in process, inchoate-to-half-
baked ratios of semi-clarity & possibilities
that might, just might, provoke, educe,
draw-out surrounding response ability
and cultivate local food for thought.
Shoot first. Think later.
Free Play: prior to literal-to-metaphor,
noise-to-news, random-to-order, good
& evil ratios & concerns so that notions
might could be juggled & emerging
phenomena & values might light up some
darkness & reveal the proper chains of our
cultural & customary environmental webwork. .
Motive behind my madness. And it is insane
(un-clean, dirty work)—a purgation &
temporary purification: watching &
washing our words in the blood
of the spam— Academic Puritanism.
Beyond goodies & weasels, bad guys & good guys,
justice & injustices: not claiming to eliminate these
double binds & iron determinations, but to turn up
the opposition, the agon(y) & celebrate the
relationships.
Like building ice cream parlors in hell with full
appreciation for both hot & cold, loving the
enemy so to speak. Like maybe slowly shifting
environmental conditions form Rigorous This-is-
Not-a-Game (ill ludic:illusion) to Welcome Inn
Mess, Guess & Innovation so we might Put IT
In-Play (ludic,ludicrous): a Wabash Cannon Ball
& a good&evil time had by all.
xxxooo, Sam
