HYSTERIA

Hysteria.
 
Literally: of the womb, whelm, matrix.  To describe
someone or some community  or some “age” as
"hysterical" is to suggest  it is still IN SOLUTION 
(swimming in the womb, so to speak. Not yet born.
As opposed to AB SOLUTE:  dry,out of solution.) 

A variation on Plato’s cave metaphor.
 
I keep trying to frame our human “problems”  (probes)
 in terms of Environmental Issues.  and not of the polar-
bear & pelican kind. We’ve got golf carts and Leeds
Certification  and recycling and steep slope construction
concerns pretty well covered around here.
 
I mean the psychological environment  in which we swim:
our  alma matrix
 
We move around in our neighborhood and  communities
as free-agents, auto-motivated, deciding on  this or that:
to sue, to get a tattoo, to wear cowboy boots, go on to
tenth grade after 9^th,  take up skateboarding,  avoid bell
bottoms,  carry bottle water, become vegan, agitate over
 “second-hand smoke,” check again and again and again
for breast or colon cancers, recycle, rely on bulleted power
presentations,  ratchet up rigor in our classrooms, eat 
Cheerios to lower cholesterol, vote for American Idol…
jog and jog and jog...all of which are  ENVIRONMENTALLY
shaped if not determined.
 
As opposed to ABSOLUTs:  out-of-solution,  dry notions
that might be said to be  beyond environments: archtypes that
manifest in stereotypes and then in the typical  range of diversity
of any locality—relative to the archetypes or ideals (conceptual ideas)
 
Probes and problems in terms of  Words, too:  the  media of
language: the  sport of converse-action, the generalizing  &
specific-izing,  the categorizing and reduction-izing, the mixing
of metaphor, the hidden assumptions, the denotations and cultural
connotations, the  quibbling and the what-the-hell, I’ll-bear- with-you
-&-see-where-it-goes: the play of language, best game town as far
as I’m concerned—is how I like to frame IT--the problems
of man-un-kind..
 
Why did The Bubba go away? You asked.  Why will we construct
a smoke-free atmosphere 5 years from now?
 
Hysteria.  An environmental issue. . We  swim in an atmos that
influences and constrains, filters and protects and guides and
limits and dictates the parameters of what’s necessary
and what’s destructive. as well as what's neither
necessary or destructive which we call
fashion. Style.
 
Convention: Convenient. Culture. Custom.
Alma Matrix uber alles. IT's an enviornemental issue.
IT, I said.

You can walk away  from Omelas  if you don’t like it.
OR run, sure: but you can’t hide..
