Postlude: Motorcycle Maintenance
Dear American Literati, Readers in Humanity, Dialogue
& Dialecticians and my Colleagues Across the Curriculum.
Towards Frontiers Yet Unknown Series
(NOTE: course syllabus attached

Deja View: In life we make progress by conflict and in mental life by
argument and disputation....There must be confrontation and opposition,
in order that sparks must be kindled.
Only an open conflict of ideas and principles can produce any clarity.
Argument is essential for its own sake.(Karl Popper)
Even if all were agreed on an essential proposition, it would be essential
to give an ear to the one person who does not. J.S. Mill
Postlude
Environed Mentalism (Liberal Art: Life-Long Sport)
not to be collapsed, conflatred or confused with the liberal arts, those
majors and minor vocational studies you for you life-long work-program)
GET REAL on the one hand.
KEEPING IT REAL on the other hand.
I'm snowed-in—forced into scholarship (leisure-class activity).

I like these dialectical triads: they indicate relationship among
oppositions—you know: the on-the-one-hand-&-also-on-the-
other-hand either/ors between rocks & hard places, devils &
deep blue sees that we often find ourselves be-twitched and be

I am DOUBLED, damnit.. Doubt -full. (“doubt,” the word, is
a diminutive of “double,” doubling: on the one hand but then also
on the other hand damnit—double, double boiled & troubled.) I'm
dueling banjos, dichotomizing split-decisioned dualistic schizo
frantic: a house divided indivi-dual. I squeak with a forked tongue..
Caught in the middle between damned (damaged) if I do and
damned (damaged) if I don't do Damaged and damaging
either way, damnit..
Just describing here. Not complaining. No whine released
before it's time IT is what IT is, for crying out loud. Keeping
IT real is all.

aka: the practice of Liberal ART (not to be collapsed, conflated, and
confused with the liberal arts—those job-driven, work-program
vocational disciplines you major and minor in.) Need we argue?
Or course. We must. Or what's a college for?
“Without Contraries,” says Wm Blake, “is no Progress.”
“If a Fool persist in his Folly, he becomes Wise”; and
“the Road of Excess leads to the Palace of Wisdom.”
“The opposite of a profound truth is another profound truth, and
the opposite of a trivial truth is a contradiction,” says Neils Bohr,
Nobel physicist. “Ah, I see we're heading toward paradox: we must
be making progress.”
The Ludic Frame
For what it costs you to take this course (or any here) you could
buy a pretty good 2nd-hand motorcycle and be on the road to
Santa Cruz.
However: the meta-environment, while it does offer you the choice
to tattoo or not tattoo, it does not encourage or support the choice
to ride or not to ride, so it's unlikely—even though I mention it, that
it will occur to you as a live option.
Meat Puppets R US. I jiggle-dance on strings of our Environed
Mentalism, convinced, nevertheless that my options are my own
and my choices undetermined by the surrounding environment
in which I swim—so to speak: amniotic and all-soaking-wet inside
our sustaining environmentalism: whelm, womb, alma matrix as
it were.
This is not condemnation. Just an attempt at Get-Real Description.
Keeping it real is a course of another color.. YOU can say how
YOU see IT. We can argue. Or what's a college for? Readings
in our humanity. Our American literature. Debate, Dialogue &
Dialectic.
Call it: practicing Liberal Art. It's a good joke, I say.
Eureka! Said Archimedes as he settled into his bathtub:
“I get it!” and immediately got up and ran around the
city bare butt-naked like some crowned emperor .
