Forget Founding Father's Day, Please

Dear Daughter & Son,

I took the phone off the hook last year because I don't
like obligatory phone calls--father's day crap and birthdays.

Avoided making them myself and don't like getting them. 

Is this pride & arrogance?

Or humility?

Pride & arrogance I'm sure

Maybe immaturity. That's possible.I hate convention for
convention's sake,:fashion, tattoos, nose rings, girls in
cowboy boots, obligatory college, graduation speeches,
mothers and  fathers day cards--seeing  some poor bloke 
at Ingles picking up a bunch of grocery store roses
and chocolates on Valentines day.

I love you both. You made me the father-I-am today. .
Amazing: you two-- what you do. 

But please don't  be calling me on any formal day. 
E-mail or FB anytime you feel like chatting.
You know I'm good for it.
