Zounds!

Dear Colleagues Across the Curriculum

Fight Club

Don’t take your guns to town, son.
Leave your guns at home.”

No one fights at home where charity is
said to begin. . Got to go to town to get
some converse action..

Chess.

Three lines of ongoing sustaining argument
happening on Facebook.  One with a former
WWC  grad (bleeding heart liberal); two: a
Virginia Tech philosophy  major, Ayn Randian
libertarian now  Wal Mart manager.

Three (my favorite but I got to love all my enemies
("as good as Buddhas")  a lapsed  fundamentalist
pastor, pissed at his evangelical experience &
regaling several thousand FB friends with cartoons
encouraging the Pentecostal abused & violated to
find  break-away empowerment or at least challenge
the institution.

Sustainable and sustaining academic practice
beyond the ivory tower?  Summer scholarship?.
Ongoing back and forth generating  emerging
values and  phenomena?

Not so much:

More like the satanic delight of mutual  accusation:
developing attack & defend  skills. Friendly fire but
no  edification other than building individual thrust &
parry homeland security systems.

“Neither logic nor sermons convince,” and we don't
convince each other. No minds are changed or whine
released  before its time.  Rice at a rhino. Might as well
expect Packers to become Vikings.

But  I love it.  Ludic.
Like playing basketball or piano.

Saw  Clint Eastwood’s documentary on Dave Brubeck
last night—performing at 90. "In His Own Sweet Way,"
Stalwart pioneer.  Makes me want to do like wise.
Keep lt in play.  "Never give up, " says the Donald:
"Don't ever give up."

It, I said. Spell it out and what good is it?  Need we argue?
Of course I do, or what's  a college for?

xxxooo, Presbyter
  .
