Surveying Symptoms of a General Education

Dear Colleagues Across the Curriculum
    (Courses w/o Border Series)

General Ed: It's an Environmental Issue.
     Contextual (as opposed to textual)
       Media (compared to message)
      Process (in contrast to product)

Sometimes known as the 2 Economies
   (see Dr. Hawkins for elaboration)

          FIGURE (background)

            See the relationship?
           Which is "privileged"?

FRENEMY:
the common sense
           (got to love it.)

It’s beyond me.No towers of babble
will bridge the gap so to speak
pontification not with
standing.

I can’t get there from here.
Do I have a problem with that.?
Of  course, damnit. I do.

"Be disloyal. It's your duty to the
human race.The human  race needs
to survive and it's the loyal man who
dies first  from anxiety or a bullet or
             from work.

If you have to earn a living, boy, and
the price they make you pay is loyalty,
be a double agent--and never let either
of the two sides  know your name"
                            Graham Greene
                         "Under the Garden."

Everyone knows this and salutes disloyalty
& loyalty both, double agents: internal affairs
and external..

Anarchist: Be One!

I declare to my transcendental students,
touting Thoreau, his civil disobedience.
Sitting on his ass, yes?--doing no worth
while work, chasing loons & writing for
a journal whose only subscriber is himself.

Then I go  home. Mow lawn. My Poulon
beheads garter snakes,.snaps fallen twigs,
roars a great hullaballoo; I  clip hedges,
snip snap & bushes, sweep the drive, edge
sidewalks, clip heads off the day lilies, wash
windows. Tidy the garage..

Loyalty both ways. Archy and Anarchy
and neither knows my  name.

Common sense and uncommon and why
can't they Just Get Along.? My general
education knows and knows--or what's
a college for?

xxxooo, Sam
