But a Dream
 
Primary Process:
 
When hypocrites strut their stuff and
stumble across stage stuttering thru
personae telling tales of  idios syncracy
full of song & furry crying “Hammock!”
& “Let slip the cogs of  yore,” bearing
arms & banners &  the principles of the
things signifying nothing but always
much more: 3 cheers & hip hip hooray--
the play’s the thing.
 
Secondary Process
 
Then the Howard Cosels, theater,  film, and
cinema critics, English teachers, commentators
&  reviewers & critical thinkers  reduce it to logic
and sermons to tell us what IT means signifying
something like this or like that helping us make
some sense of our own and it was like a  dream
we might say, not is but like—maybe knowing the
difference & what  we say about  it & can tell is
not  what it is. A likeness is all.
