Post Literate Neo-Oral Brave New Whirl
Post Literacy. Neo Oralcy
I confessed to a former student &
new colleague yesterday that I don’t
read much any more—old-school-wise.
But don’t spread it around. Lapsed
priest questioning conventions:
nobody loves a Judas. .
The Bookocracy has almost collapsed.
Only a matter of time. I swim amniotic
in a Post Literate Neo Oral Age, but
the institution remains Guttenbergian.
Cultural Lag makes good sense.
Takes a village and long long time
to raze a convention and never
catches up with the actual
environment. studies.
Textual Harassment: on its last legs
but don’t know it yet. The technological
blade runs so sharp heads roll on
the floor while the bodies still walk to
market to market..
Context is what counts now-a-days:
a group huddled over a text, say,
knowing their collective effort to
figure it out, herman noodling for
as long as it takes to make some
shared sense, is more important
now than any text itself—mere token.
Textuals galore and plenty more
where that comes from.
Not what I know: but can I put it in play?
My to-be-or-not-to-be question.
