Information's Galore: Laptop Dancing.

Dear Colleagues Across the Curriculum,

        Information’s galore:  laptop dancing.
    Not what we
know  that counts anymore,
but whether we can put  it in play.  True?
Need we argue?  Of course.  We must.
                Or what's a college for?

The spread of MOOCs (massive on-line open courses)
is likely to have  wide fallout. Lower-tier colleges, already
facing resistance over high tuition, may have trouble
convincing students that their courses are worth the price.

(NY Times, 11/20/12 Education.)

Hi-tech lecture & exam format.  Ditto machine and over
head projector upgrade is all. Delivery-Instruction same
as it always was.  Thousands  at once.

My enemy is time, sequence, beginnings middles,  endings,
covering ground, moving right along getting some where,
accumulating,  accomplishing,  gathering momentum,
velocity, grass always greener else where: are we
almost there?

                How different?  How related?
                   Can they Just Get Along?

With what you pay for tuition in this class, I tell them
(&  put it on the final exam), you coulda  bought a decent
second-hand motorcycle and started a road  trip to Santa Cruz.

Questioning authority, protocol, procedures, processing:
appropriately demoralizing. Like trying to determine
Position and Velocity at the same time.  Liberal Art.

Hurts. Crucible. Chrysalis.  General Education.

IN IT but not  of it.  Throw it away.  Waste not: want.
Scattergood.  Plenty more where that comes from.
