Civil civil war
Re: Bobby Ann Mason's "Shiloh"
Sacramental
I take you (significantother) to be
to be my life-long fight club partner
& worthy opponent, in sickness and
health, damnit—a lifetime of civil
war & domestic ego-violence, power
struggle of course, wrangling &
wrestling: our marriage alchemy
excruciating & trans-forming etc.
good times & bad, an ongoing
“Shiloh”
forevermore.
Environmental Mind-Set? How the culture
frames “marriage”& life-long relationship
whatever thegender combination?.
Not likely..
I’m not saying it’s a good mind-set Perceived
as pessimistic probably. Or morbid. Certainly
not the optimism we feel is “healthy” for wellness
etc.
I could call it “realistic” but not on Oprah.
She’d roll her eyes.
“That’s sick, Sam!”
Raised in the 40’s & 50’s: folks avoided divorce
as scandal. Hurt worse to divorce than to stay in
IT. Lesser of evils. .
Imagine a mind-frame-set that cast marriage as
2 cats, tails tied in a knot, tossed over a
clothesline to claw each others guts out!
My old man claimed he had a crucified ego, using
that disturbing image to represent what it takes to
individuate, grow up, mature, pass through one
disillusionment after another.
You might could fashion your own “Supreme Fiction”
–your controlling myth & metaphor that does justice
& frames IT for you. IT, I said--you know
what I"m saying. .
Can’t be too cheesy.
Not tToo much cliché.
Or too optimistic or pessimistic.
Can’t be too obscure, gobble-de-gook
smoke & mirrors, incense & muzzy mystical
tink-a-tank tunk. That won’t suffice. Sustain.
"Supreme Fiction." Wallace Steven’s term
Introduction to Supreme Fiction. Roll your
own story that tells ALL. Makes sense of making
sense of civil, civil war and peace: domestic violence
& violins.
Molly Mind-Set & Bobby Bootylicious bump into
each other at the Crossroads. They repair to
Fools Rush Inn to have a beer and smoke it
over, consider their collision & the damage
done.
Which of the 2 will dominate?
Which will serve and enable?
Mytho-logic.
