Vertical Studies and Leadership Programs

               FRAME WORKS

   Don’t be Seduced  by Breadth.
( liberal arts across the curriculum)
    Verticality is Where IT’s At.
              (Liberal Art)

A difference that makes a difference
as opposed to differences that don’t.

High lift the beams of the chamber,
        Workmen, on high;
Like Ares in step comes the Bridegroom

                                               Sappho

Raise high the roof beams, carpenters
                                              Salinger

“God is no respecter of persons.”
                                      Acts 10: 34-

I confessed to Tom Showalter this
morning: I myself am no respecter of
“content”: subject-object matter, texts,
textual criticism, topics: personae
megaphonic “sound-thru’s” is all.

Tales told by idiocy full of song &
furry signifying no things.  Means for
the making of meaning, differences
that make a difference. Good for
composing: an inventory of artificials.

A Sort of a Song

Let the snake wait under
his weed
and the writing
be of words, slow and quick, sharp
to strike, quiet to wait,
sleepless.
-- through metaphor to reconcile
the people and the stones.
Compose. (No ideas
but in things) Invent!
Saxifrage is my flower that splits
the rocks.

                  W.C.Williams
 .
A sort-of, says Williams.  As-if.
Not to be  collapsed,  conflated
and confused with  IS.

Spend a semester playing with this
analogy. Four years. No rush. Waste
time.  Raise high some roof beams
or what’s a college for?.
